Your business needs a website
In today's modern society, a business without a website is seen as old fashioned and technophobic. More and more businesses in the Portsmouth area are getting a website. Some of these businesses will be your competitors, and if your business doesn't have a competing website, you could be missing out on new business because customers who use the internet won't find you.

A website offers better value for money than traditional advertising methods
While a website should not be seen as a replacement for traditional advertising methods, it does have many advantages over them:

  • Traditional advertising generally limits you to a small space and the need to squeeze as much information as possible into that space often means that the advert looks cluttered and untidy. With a website, the space is not limited. You can have pages and pages of information on your website, and you can structure that information in a much more friendly format so that visitors to your website only read what they need to.
  • A website shows you are a professional company and a little investment can go a long way on the internet. £400 might pay for an advertisement box 10cm square in the local newspaper; or it could pay for a professionally designed website with several pages, which the whole world can see.
  • With traditional advertising, once the advertisement has been printed, you're stuck with it, sometimes for up to a year. If you have a website, the information can be changed and updated as often as you need, and you can experiment with the content until you find what suits your business best.

We make sure everyone can access your website
Accessibility is rapidly becoming a much more important factor in building a website. Too many designers are using old-fashioned methods, such as designing a website layout based in a table, and don't even realise that they're cutting out a large part of their audience by doing so. The Disability Discrimination Act is now in force which means that businesses should be providing methods to allow people with disabilities to access and make use of your website.

For example: blind people whose computers audibly read out the website text to them need your text needs to be laid out logically and make sense; partially sighted people have difficulty reading websites if there is not a good contrast between the text colour and that of the background; and people with physical disabilities meaning they have difficulties using a mouse will rely on keyboard shortcuts and the arrow keys to navigate their way around your website. All of these factors need to be taken into account.

At BEA Solutions, we fully test every website we build to ensure they comply with the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines to AAA standard, and guide our customers to make sure their website meets the Disability Discrimination Act recommendations.
